Meet The Team
As an Early Years educator and former children’s centre head I have witnessed the profound impact a positive home life has on every child’s ability to learn and develop. My role as HomeStart Southwark Director allows me to work in an area of early years intervention which I believe can make a difference to some of the most vulnerable families in the UK. Volunteers bring a different kind of engagement with families based on the HomeStart vision of ‘Friendship’. This enables families to think of solutions to the challenges they face and have a positive impact on their children’s future. I have a young family and Live in London. I like to go to the woods, eat other people’s cooking, read and play with my children.
Sandra is a smiley, cheerful, kind nature and fun person in character. She enjoys the variety of her job and when she is not inducting new staff and trustees, she is busy calculating and preparing costs for budget proposals, period end reports and cashflow forecast. She has been employed with Home-Start Southwark since 2003 and is very proud of the help and support the organisation offers to families and the difference it makes to the local community. One of her greatest achievement is running the London Marathon in 2010, raising money for the scheme’s annual family trip to Butlins, Bognor Regis.
Leonardo comes from Rome with family roots in Italy, North Africa, Middle East, Bulgaria and Greece! Before joining Home Start Leonardo worked at youth charity vInspired where he managed a full time volunteering programme to support young people develop skills and gain qualification to become work ready. Leonardo looks after 101 things at home Start including our website, marketing and reports. With no one dull moment at his desk, budgets and delivery plans are Leonardo’s thing in the office, as is theatre outside of it.
Growing up, Cheryl always wanted to help others in need and has devoted her career to working with families. Firstly, studying a GNVQ in Health and Social Care then going on to study a BSC Sociology. Cheryl started working in Social and Child Care, which she found “an heart wrenching but rewarding experience”. She then joined Home-Start while continuing adding to her education completing an NVQ in Childcare. Cheryl started as a co-ordinator and later become the Senior Co-ordinator, enjoying both roles and very much enjoying being part of the team. In the past year Cheryl achieved her best achievement ever, which is becoming a Mummy to a wonderful baby boy.
Odette is passionate about early intervention and joined Home-Start Southwark in January 2014 after working in social care for 22 years. Odette became a mum at a very young age and can empathise and understand the circumstances many of our young mother face bringing up their children. Odette now has two grown up men and two grandchildren a boy and a girl. She loves the theatre, being a Grandparent and enjoys reading a good book in her spare time.
Bump to Babe Co-ordinator
Becca joined the team in June 2015. Before this she “enjoyed” singing Old MacDonald on repeat for eighteen months with her baby daughter, after spending the previous twelve years working in children’s and infrastructure charities in London and Surrey. Becca loves ice cream, parks, and hot lazy holidays, and is looking forward to making a difference supporting families in the perinatal period with Home-Start.
Bump to Babe Project Assistant
Zoe worked as a self-employed jewellery retailer for many years. She started volunteering while in search for something different and joined Home-Strat Southwark as a volunteer in January 2017. Soon after the training Zoe was matched with her first family and towards the end of 6 months support period, the Bump to Babe Project Assistant position became available, for which she successfully applied. At Home-start Zoe has developed many new skills and gained invaluable experience and now feels this is the career she wants to pursue.
Volunteer Development Worker
Juliet joined Home-Start Southwark in Summer 2017 to take the lead on recruiting, training and generally supporting our volunteers in their crucial role of befriending and supporting local parents. She’s worked for charities for many years and was a Home-Start volunteer herself in Kingston and Richmond. When she’s not working she’s usually catching up with friends or trying unsuccessfully to keep track of her four teenage children.
