bbccin_corelogo_port_rgb_pos_pud-1We are thrilled to announce that Home-Start Southwark has been awarded over £137,500 in new funding to provide home visits and group parenting support for pre-school children and their families who are dealing with a variety of disadvantages.  The three-year grant will enable Home-Start Southwark to train volunteers to provide families with a variety of support, tools and activities which will help them overcoming the obstacles they face in order to help the child reach their full potential, achieve developmental milestones and develop language skills.

Pippa South, Chair of Trustees at Home Start Southwark commented: “The new funding from BBC Children in Need will allow us to deliver home visits over the next three years which offer tailored support for young children and their families who are dealing with challenging circumstances impacting on the child readiness for school.”

22nd Annual general MeetingIMG-20171117-WA0006

HomeStart Southwark was delighted to welcome the Mayor of Southwark, Charlie Smith, and local MP Helen Hayes to our 22nd AGM on 17th November.
We and the families we support are delighted that they recognise the importance of our work, especially that done by our volunteers. Our special thanks this year goes to 5 of our volunteers Judith, Funmi, Ann, Clare and Coral who between them have 36 years of volunteering with, and caring, for families in Southwark.

Good News at last!

After a nail-biting 11 months, since we heard from LB Southwark that our Contract to supply “Targeted Family Support” to families in Southwark, which provided a large part of our income, would cease in September 2016, we are delighted, and so relieved, to announce that we have now secured alternative funding that will go a very long way to sustaining our organisation for the next 3 years.
We have redesigned our service to attract this new funding whilst remaining true to our mission to provide practical and emotional support to struggling parents so that they may create happier lives for their children. Having very regrettably had to make 2 members of staff redundant during this period of great uncertainty we are now able to recruit new staff and so support many more local families and children.
Huge thanks go to The Henry Smith Charity, The Peter Stebbings Memorial Fund, United St Saviour’s Charity and The Big Lottery Fund and of course to all our staff and volunteers who have worked enormously hard to secure new funds whilst continuing to care for our families during this most stressful and worrying time.
We do not quite have all the money that we need from major donors to fund all our plans so we will continue our fundraising with, we trust, your support, and remain particularly grateful to those smaller donors whose regular help and donations has meant so much to Home-Start Southwark both financially and in terms of moral support.
With very best wishes.
Pippa South
