What is Home-Start Southwark?
Home-Start Southwark is a Home-Start scheme working in the London Borough of Southwark. We are a registered charity with our own management committee and work within the guidelines set out by Home-Start UK.
Our approach is simple. We provide trained volunteers with parenting experience to help any parent, with at least one child under five, who is finding it hard to cope. Established in 1973, Home-Start now works alongside 21,000 families and 48,000 children each year and has established schemes in more than 320 communities across the UK.
What does Home-Start Southwark do?
Most parents would agree that being a parent, wherever you live, whatever your circumstances, isn’t always easy. Combine that with additional pressures such as illness or financial worries and without the support of family and friends the pressures can seem overwhelming.
We help any parent living in the London Borough of Southwark, who has at least one child under five and is finding things tough, for any reason. They may be faced with:
Post-natal illness | Multiple births | Loneliness | Isolation
Relationship difficulties | Bereavement | Poverty | Ill health | Disabilities
Mental health problems | Children with special needs
What Families Say About Their Volunteer:
“She is like the mother I never had”
“I’d never have managed it without her help”
“Just talking it out helped so much”
“She can be the only reason I get out of my dressing gown. She spurs me on”
“I brought her flowers. I just wanted her to know how much she had done for me.”
